Seasons Greetings!
Seasons Greetings!
What a year 2008 has been for us! Starting out in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, and ending in Lacey, Washington, we have had many changes in our lives this year.
This time last year, Dave was attending classes to earn his Masters in Recreation Administration, in addition to working for the on-campus outdoor leadership organization, O.W.L.S. (Outdoor Wisconsin Leadership Synergies), facilitating small groups of 8th graders to adults in building their leadership skills using the High Ropes and Low Ropes courses. Heidi was substitute teaching in the nearby school districts and also working part time for O.W.L.S. We had an amazing winter with record-breaking snowfall (2nd snowiest on record) and even had tornadoes in January!
While in Wisconsin, we did a bit of traveling. Both sets of parents flew out to visit, Dave’s around Thanksgiving time and Heidi’s in April. Dave’s brother, Myk, also came to visit on business in Milwaukee (about 45 minutes away from Williams Bay) so we made sure to visit him and do some touring of the local breweries and attractions while we were there. Chicago was also a nearby city we traveled to quite often. Whether to visit Heidi’s relative, Kay, pick someone up at the airport, visit friends, or see the sites of the Windy City, we always had a great time! During the summer, Heidi was the Matron of Honor in her cousin’s wedding and Dave was the Best Man in our Best Man’s wedding! In addition to the weddings, the Crawford family had a family reunion in Cleveland, Ohio, to celebrate his grandma’s 80th birthday. Pretty much the whole extended family made it to the reunion and we even took a little stop off to play at the Cedar Point Amusement Park!
In August, Dave graduated, we moved back to Washington and both of us started new jobs. Heidi began her first teaching job at Tyee Park Elementary in Lakewood, WA, teaching 3rd grade. More changes were to come as we moved into a town home in Lacey and Dave began his job at the Northwest Outdoor Adventure Center on Fort Lewis, leading outdoor trips for soldiers and their families currently stationed there. Three weeks into school Heidi’s job changed from teaching 3rd grade to teaching full day Kindergarten because of a low student enrollment of 3rd graders and a very high enrollment of kindergarteners (quite the adventure and challenge).
It has been a year of changing, adjusting to new situations, exploring new paths,
and growing together. We are blessed to be surrounded by so many friends and
family. To have their support means everything to us. Who knows what this
next year will bring, but we hope that God will continue to bless our lives as he
has done so this year.
Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
God Bless,
Dave & Heidi

Teaching Kindergarten...
Long story short, I am now teaching Kindergarten (Still at the same school). Since our Kindergarten classes were HUGE (28 students each) and the Third Grade classes were small (15 students each) I was "chosen" to have my class split up between the other 2 classes, making a new Kindergarten teacher. Besides being in Kindergarten myself, I had no experience in a Kindergarten classroom...making this change a Enormously stressful change. Luckily, I have a fabulous staff and family who helped me set up my new classroom and prepare for taking on the task of teaching Kindergarten.
I have now been teaching Kindergarten for 3 1/2 weeks, but still don't have some of the supplies (ie curriculum, computers, books, etc) that are needed for our all day program. I have been sharing supplies with the other Kindergarten teachers and slowly my supplies are arriving! Hopefully these next few weeks won't be quite so stressful, so please send your positive thoughts and prayers my way.
~Heidi~
ps...I will have Dave write about his new job at Fort Lewis once he gets a chance (which could be a while) :)

Heidi's Teaching 3rd Grade!

So far, my brain is a on overload from all the new information that was given to me over the past 3 weeks. We just finished our first 3 days of school and I think everything went quite well! As of right now, I only have 14 students that have shown up to school, so please cross your fingers that a few more will show their faces soon because if our numbers stay low, we may have to shuffle things around a bit. Anywho, my mom came to take pictures last Tuesday (as well as help me finish setting up my classroom/make copies of papers for me) so I thought I would share them with all of you!
Crawford Family Reunion, Ohio

In August, David's family had a family reunion/80th Birthday Party for Mimi (his grandma) in Cleveland, Ohio. We met his parents and siblings at Cedar Point Amusement Park where we rode lots and lots of rides. On the second day at Cedar Point, some of Dave's cousins met us at the park. It was great to finally meet the rest of his extended family after we traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, where his aunts and uncles live, as well as go to a Cleveland Indians Baseball Game and see another Great Lake, Lake Erie. It was a whorl wind vacation, followed by Dave driving our car (with all of our stuff) back to Washington and Heidi flew back to Washington to immediately start 2 FULL weeks of training for her new job. Enjoy the pictures!

Myk came to visit us!
David's brother, Myk, came to visit us this week! We showed him around the area, went kayaking on the lake, and on Friday we went to the Harley-Davidson Museum & a Brewer's Game in Milwaukee. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Miller Park
We tailgated before the game, but we didn't bring all of the crazing furniture, grills, games that many of the other groups brought.
Hank Aaron statue outside the stadium

The mascot is supposed to slide down when there is a hometeam homerun...but we didn't get to see it because there were no homeruns :(
We had amazing seats...20 rows up from the field!
The Sausages!!! The polish sausage won 1st place during the Sausage Race after the 6th inning.

There was a coffee shop inside the stadium...so obviously I had to buy a drink from them :)
