Crawford Family Camping at Ocean Shores

We met Dave's family at Ocean Shores for a quick camping trip.  Sierra met her doggy cousins (Molly and Harley) and we enjoyed time around the campfire and walking on the beach. Here are a few pictures from our trip:

Sierra the dog

Here are some pictures of Sierra, our new doggie that we are adopting from a local vetranary clinic.  She is about 1 1/2 years old and has Lab, Shar-pie, and probably something else mixed in.  She is very sweet and calm and LOVES to have us scratch her belly.

Christmas Letter 2009

Dearest Family and Friends,

2009 has been quite the whirlwind of a year full of excitement, frustration, learning, stress, and adjustment.

David finished his first year working for Fort Lewis doing recreational programming in October. He had his ups and downs, but learned many new skills and even had the opportunity to go bungee jumping. In late November, David switched positions and is now working to manage Fort Lewis’ marina and all that goes with it. He is eagerly working toward creating new programs and events to help bring a new face to the area. Heidi finished her first year of teaching in the Clover Park School District in June. Teaching kindergarten, she learned A LOT about the teaching world, like how turning in clock hours is super important when it comes to a Reduction In Force (we are very blessed that she was offered her job back a few weeks later) and is now positive that kindergarten is not the best fit (many stories, but for a different day). This school year, Heidi is teaching 2nd grade and loving it!

In April, we celebrated our 2nd year of marriage by visiting beautiful Bellingham (where we met and both went to college). In early July, we were able take a trip to Florida to visit David’s grandparents. While we were there, we also experienced Disney World’s Epcot Center (something Heidi had always wanted to do since 5th grade state reports), dipped our toes in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, and took an adventure on an airboat ride through a Florida swamp to find some alligators.
Our most exciting (and only a little bit stressful) event this year would have to be buying a house in Lacey, WA in late July. Yes…we had perfect timing and moved during the week of 100 degree weather and luckily we have really nice family and friends who helped us sweat it out and get all settled in. We have enjoyed making it our own place and have now successfully painted the entire downstairs area and remodeled the bathroom downstairs as well.

God has truly blessed our lives is more ways than we know. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and we hope this holiday season brings you peace and joy.

Merry Christmas,
David and Heidi

Our New House!!!

Here are some pictures of our new house! The pictures were taken before we actually owned the house so the furniture you see is not ours. So far we have painted the kitchen, livingroom, diningroom, and entry way and finally got our TV, Phone & Internet hooked up! Once we put some pictures up on the walls we will be sure to post more for you to see!
We have a little backyard (yay for no yardwork!) and there is a park across the street!

Our July 2009 Trip to Florida

The Villages, FL...Visiting Mimi & Papa (Dave's Grandparents):
Dave's Granparents live in a retirement community/town called The Villages. About 75,000 people live there and they plan on expanding to 100,000 people. Currently there are 2 town centers, one Spanish style and the other Cape Cod style, that have shops, a town square, movie theatre, etc. The whole area is intertwined with country clubs, golf courses, community centers, and pools and I am pretty sure that most everyone owns a golf cart and maybe even one car. Golf carts even have their own lane on the roads with special signs and parking to remind those who aren't from the area that golf carts are everywhere. We had a wonderful time visiting Mimi & Papa (and their dog Meggie), going bowling, to the movies, listening to live music, riding in their golf cart, and eating yummy food!

Clearwater Beach, Gulf of Mexico:
This beach is located near Tampa, FL. It has beautiful white sand beaches and is set up as a small tourist resort town that consists of 3 small islands connected by very large bridges. It was so beautiful and we just happened to find a public park/beach area that didn't have very many people on it!

Cocoa Beach, Atlantic Ocean:
Cocoa Beach is near the Kennedy Space Center and an airforce base. The beach was just packed with people trying to catch the shuttle launch (which was cancelled due to thunderstorms). We were suprised at how warm the water was and how far people could walk out on the shore without putting their head underwater. Again, another beautiful, white sandy beach!

Orlando...Airboat ride, Epcot Center Disney World, CityWalk Universal Studios:
If you every have the chance to go on an airboat ride, take a ride! It was so unique and we were able to see some baby alligators along with other wildlife of Florida. The pictures of the alligators below were taken on the shore before we went on our ride...funny that the fenced in alligator area was located next to the children's playtoy area...hmmm.

Disney World's Epcot Center was very entertaining and full of things to explore! We really enjoyed all of the rides and activities and just happen to pick the right places to visit and the right time, we barely had to wait 15 minutes for any of the rides!!! I also only had to wait 3 minutes to get my picture with Pooh and the gang...made me feel like I was 5 years old again! We stayed to watch the fireworks and light show at closing which was for sure worth the wait!!!

We also went to CityWalk which is the shopping/food part just outside of the Universal Studios gate. We walked through the shops and stopped to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe! Afterwards, we went back to our hotel to swim and lay in the sun before packing our bags for the flight home. A WONDERFUL trip and much needed relaxation time together!!!
